Myth #1: Parisian dog owners don't clean up after their pets

True!

This is one of the stereotypes you always hear about.  To give the city credit, they have made dramatic improvements in the last decade.  Yet venture into one of the neighborhoods in Paris, and you will still have to watch where you walk.

One might be able to explain it from ancient times, when Parisians used the streets to throw out their garbage - tout à la rue (everything in the street) as was said.

As part of efforts to be a cleaner city, tourist areas are scrubbed so clean that you are somewhat able to walk freely.  Safe areas:  the Champs Elysées, the area around the Eiffel Tower, Place de la Concorde, Place Madeleine, Avenue Montaigne, among select others.

The Champs Elysées is in fact cleaned regularly with the sophisticated street cleaning machine shown below.
