Many things in Paris are luxurious and experiences are to be savored. One such example is the french macaroon. Usually made with almonds, egg whites, sugar and food coloring to match, they are best sampled at one of the most renowned Parisian institutions: Ladurée.
Ladurée dates back to 1862 at its first location at 16 rue Royale, close to Place Madeleine in the 8th arrondissement. It started as a bakery shop, evolved into a pastry shop and finally a tea salon. It's simply divine and deservedly well known for its scrumptious desserts, pastries and sweets.

If you can't make it to the original location (pictured above), be sure to try one of the following:
- 75 avenue des Champs Elysées
8th arrondissement, Metro Georges V
(see photo below of an upstairs tea room)
- 21 rue Bonaparte
6th arrondissement, Metro Saint-Germain
(about 2 blocks from the station) - 62 boulevard Haussmann
9th arrondissement, Metro Opéra
(inside department store Printemps)
Tip: It can be extremely busy when purchasing "to go" from the shop at the Champs Elysées location. You order with one person, pay with another, and show your receipt to a third person to pick up your purchase. However in typical french fashion, the flow of traffic is not ideal nor organized, so you have to criss-cross through a very small space that might have 30-40 patrons wanting to satisfy their macaroon cravings. Rest assured though, it is well worth it.

Food
A little less famous abroad but known by the most "gourmets" parisians: la patisserie "Pierre Hermé". It's as high quality as La Durée, but less "touristy". The cakes are fantastic. It's a life experience! I don't know anyone who was disappointed by a Pierre Hermé cake.
