A Souvenir of Paris

A Paris vacation can be so memorable for travelers that they long to bring a part of the City of Light back with them.  Memories and photos are of course longlasting, but the desire to have something tangible has led to a surprising product on the market.

Eiffel Tower, anyone?

This question can often be heard at popular tourist hangouts with vendors offering trinkets and dangly keychains of the famed monument in every size and color.

Now imagine the case of Erik Kurvers, the president of the Dutch basketball team, the EiffelTowers, who on November 19, 2007 bought a section of the Eiffel Tower's staircase for 150,000 Euros.  The 15-foot section of the spiral staircase was sold at French auction house Hôtel Drout.

It is not certain what Kurvers will do with his new momento.
